Alaskan Voyage

One of the best parts about going home this time was that Mom and Dad were freshly home from their Alaskan Cruise - so we got to be among the first ones to hear about it! They had a fabulous trip, and here are some pictures. They took a ton, but this is a pretty good recap of the main things they saw.

Their ship - the Sun Princess! Isn't it HUGE????

A view from on board. If you zoom in, you can see a very idiotic person SWIMMING in the pool, while there are chunks of ice floating in the ocean in the distance. Brrrr!

This is in Ketchikan. They got to see all the totem pole stuff and a neat Lumber Jack show.

Tracy Arm Fjord - they said this was the coldest they were on the trip. They were bundled up in all their warmest clothes and were still cold. They were able to go part way into the Fjord, but had to turn back because the ice chunks in the water were so big.

Mendenhall Glacier in the background.

My dad having a blast, can't you tell? ha! If you know Dad, you know he doesn't grin too big for photos, but he really was having fun. This is going on their Scenic Float down the river from the small mountain town of Haines down to Skagway. They saw lots of eagles and other wildlife. The eagles nests were huge - 6 feet or larger in diameter. They said this ride was pretty chilly as well, being right down on the water. They had a guide who told them all about the 5 different types of salmon and other facts about wildlife there and the Eskimo culture.

First Formal Dinner - there were two. At this one they had King Crab legs, I believe.

Second Formal Dinner - I think they had lobster tails at this one. Mom got to wear her Mother-of-the-Groom dress from Mike & Julie's wedding again! Don't they look great?

In the dining room where they had buffets for breakfast and maybe lunch and then at night it was turned into a fancier restaurant.

In Butchart Gardens in Victoria B.C. This place used to be an old rock quarry, and when it was closed down, the wife of the owner wanted to do something to beautifuy the place and bring it back to it's natural habitat. Apparantly, she outdid herself! It is stunningly kept and has the most beautiful landscaping and flowers you've ever seen.
I know Mom and Dad also went on a Whale Watching Excursion, but I didn't seem to get any photos of that. They saw lots of whales - mothers with calves and some up very close to shore. I think they were pleased with all of their daytime excursions and all the things they got to see and do. Maybe on their next cruise we can all join them!
